Such an immense undertaking. To design and build a 12m reception counter using timber from the old Bunbury jetty which dates back to 1864. To create something refined and accurate while still being respectful and most importantly letting the timber shine! The process was a collaboration between myself, Gensler and the client. We took Genslers original design proposal for the reception desk and reworked it to incorporate the historic jetty timber.There were many stages to this project, which took place over a 2 year period. Here is an image set which captures some key moments. I still find it hard to believe we were able to pull it off. It is difficult to truly convey in photos how intense the timber preperation and construction phase was.
